You are safe in Benue – Alia to Corps members

Despite the security challenges bedeviling Benue State, Governor Hyacinth Alia, has assured the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), members that are safe in the State.
Recall that the State has in recent times come under severe attacks by suspected herdsmen, leaving many dead.
Passengers who are also travelling within the State axis have also been kidnapped many times.
Just this morning a commercial bus with 19 passengers was also hijacked and all passengers kidnapped.
There was a midnight attack on Thursday April 25, 2025 and over seven people reportedly killed by suspected Fulani bandits.

However, speaking on Friday, during the opening of the NYSC camp Batch A’ Stream 1, in the State, the Governor said he is working closely with security agencies to ensure that the spate of killings and kidnapping is brought to an end.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth, Sports Development, and Creativity, Terkimbi Ikyange, the Governor also emphasized that security of Corps members tops his priority.
According to him: “While our nation continues to grapple with serious security concerns, Benue State is no exception. However, I want to assure you that we are taking your safety seriously,
“We have implemented comprehensive protective measures in collaboration with all relevant security outfits to safeguard corps members’ lodges and areas of deployment”, he said.
Governor Alia also urged the newly inducted corps members to take full advantage of the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, programme, calling it a gateway to self-reliance and success.
He encouraged them to leverage their talents to contribute meaningfully to national development, saying, “The gifts and abilities that brought you this far are the same ones that will shape the future of our country.”
Also speaking at the event, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Veronica Garba, expressed gratitude to the state government and the people of Benue for their continued support.
She encouraged corps members to fully engage in the four core areas of the orientation course: physical fitness, intellectual development, recreational activities, and skills training.
