World Post Day: NIPOST to unveil online postal, money order
The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has disclosed that it will unveil an online Postal and Money Order as part of the activities to commemorate the World Post Day coming up on October 9.
According to a statement by Mr. Franklin Alao, the General Manager, Corporate Communications of NIPOST in Abuja and made available to Daily Times, the portal is aimed at bringing postal service at par with best global practices.
He said that NIPOST was taking advantage of the Information Communication and Technology (ICT) era to introduce into its operations a number of innovative products that would change the face of postal service in the country.
He added that the online postal and money order alongside other products were slated to be unveiled at the event as the organisation re-launch itself back into the public consciousness.
The Universal Postal Union (UPU), the world postal body, has set aside every October 9 as a day where its members all over the world review postal activities in each country annually with a view to celebrating achievements, set new objectives and strategies for enhanced postal service.
NIPOST, formerly Post and Telecommunication, P&T, one of the Federal Government’s money spinning parastatals, has been bugged by poor patronage, especially following the introduction of Global Satellite for Mobile Telecommunication, GSM, which has enhanced businesses and enabled social contacts, in place of the former role of the P&T.
Observers say the recent move by NIPOST , headed by Barrister Bisi Adegbuyi, Post Master General, to make the organisation more functional and revenue-yielding is a welcome development.
