Women remain catalyst for national development – Rep

The member representing Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency in the House of Representative, Hon. (Barr.) Vincent Ofumelu, has that times have evolved where leaders will be clamouring for women empowerment, adding that it is ideal to call for women partnership and participation in governance.

Ofumelu stated this recently when he played host to the leadership of Umerum women who came to appreciate the legislator for his giant strides since his election and consequent inauguration as the people’s representative.

While welcoming the women, Ofumelu stated that he became a member, and deputy chairman of women affairs committee because of the undying importance women are made to play in government.

Responding to the commendations from the womenfolk, Ofumelu said: “If there is one person who should give excuses for failure, I think it should be me because of the intractable conflicting interest that my first six months faced.

I faced rigorous legal battles that took me to the Supreme Court, we had seventeen legal tussles. But I was undaunted towards my goals. The vision was what took me to the National Assembly, not just to be called an honourable”.

Ofumelu promised the women that they have a viable place in his legislative sojourn.

Various speakers ranging from the chairperson of the association could not withhold their countenance on the visible representation which Ofumelu had brought to Oyi/Ayamelum federal constituency.
