Women groups seek Olubadan’s intervention in Oyo govt, labour face-off

Worried by the effect of the  continued face-off between Oyo State Government and the Labour  Union in the state,  a group of women from different organisations in the state have appealed to Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso  I to intervene on the matter.

The women groups led by Prof. (Mrs.) Adetoun Ogunseye and Chief (Mrs.) Bola Doherty lamented the continued face-off and the effects on the society, saying as the father of all with no affiliation towards any political party or ideological persuasion, the 87years old monarch was in a better position to bring about amicable resolution of the labour crisis between the duo.

“As mothers, we are not comfortable with the on-going labour crisis in Oyo State and its effects on the society. Workers not going to work, school children and teachers not going to school are not a pleasant thing.”

As non-governmental organisations comprising women from many organizations such as FIDA, FOMWAN, NCWS, YWCA, AGES and others, we believe that only a monarch of your standing with no partisan commitment towards any political party could intervene in this matter.

Responding, Oba Adetunji in his response  said that he would not be tired of wading into the Oyo State Government-Labour face-off until the conflict is amicably resolved. According to the first class monarch, while no one is out to apportion blame to either of the warring parties, the continued non-attendance of students and teachers in schools is giving everyone a cause for concern.

He expressed the hope that he would contact the State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi and the Labour leaders as soon as possible with a view to resolving the dispute, that peace might reign supreme in the land again.

While thanking the women for voicing their concern on the on-going government-labour face-off, Oba Adetunji noted that by the grace of God, students would soon return to classrooms to resume studies once the parties concerned embrace dialogue.

Meanwhile, Oba Adetunji has stepped into the on-going crisis between the Pharmacitical Concil of Nigeria, PCN and National Association of Patent Medicines Dealers, NAPPMED and forged a truce between them.

While thanking the PCN representatives for their understanding, he called on all chemists in the land to abide by the rules and regulations governing their trades.
