How will Man City line up against Man Utd?

Pep Guardiola says he will make changes for the EFL Cup clash but says he is reluctant to throw too many youngsters into the breach

Pep Guardiola has promised to make a number of changes to his Manchester City side for the EFL Cup clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Willy Caballero will replace Claudio Bravo in goal, while Kevin De Bruyne, Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta are all injured.

Guardiola played Aleix Garcia, a defensive midfielder, and Angelino, a right-back, in the two attacking midfield roles in the previous round but has said he is reluctant to include his youngsters given City’s recent run of five matches without victory.

“Young players have to be involved in the team’s good moment, you cannot forget now the last five games we didn’t win,” he said. “To help the young players, you have to be involved in a good environment, with people with experience. To put three, four, five young players in at the same time is not a good idea because we have to protect them. But maybe I don’t have any other options and I have to put them in.”

He will make his final decision on Wednesday and may have to include one or two young hopefuls in order to give a rest to his senior options.

David Silva, Fernandinho, John Stones and Sergio Aguero could all drop out of the line-up.

Guardiola has played a three-man defence in recent weeks but is unlikely to try it away from home and against a team who deploy wingers.
