Why we ban political gathering, Benue Govt

The Benue State Government has stated reasons it banned political gatherings and meetings in the state.
According to the government, the ban does not target any political party or group of politicians but rather in the best interest of the state.
Chief of Staff to the state governor, Paul Biam, said the Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration took the measure because of the level of insecurity in the state.
The state government said the ban covers all forms of intra-party and inter-group meetings in the north-central state till further notice.

The Chief of Staff added that the ban became necessary because of the volatility of the security atmosphere in Benue.
He said that the security atmosphere became charged, following what he described as the unprecedented influx of armed herdsmen into the state.
The Chief of Staff in his letter to the state Commissioner of Police, urged him to enforce the directive on the ban.
