In line with what has been described as its mission to provide convenient and fast payment solution to its customers, Nigeria’s oldest bank, FirstBank Nigeria Limited, launched FirstBank chat banking on WhatsApp at the weekend in Lagos.

Briefing newsmen at the launch, MD\CEO of the bank, Dr. Adesola Adeduntan said the whole essence of the launch was to remain at the forefront of innovation in the banking sector, noting that FirstBank WhatsApp banking was first among the series products that will be released into the market to the delight of customers.

Adeduntan said it was a new channel for access to the bank’s services, a convenient way to make payment and an easy-to-use banking application.

“FirstBank chat banking on WhatsApp is another significant milestone in our mission to provide convenient and fast payment solutions to our customers.

It is one of the ways FirstBank puts you first and enables you to stay connected with your contacts, loved ones, friends and finances, all on the GO while you chat with them because, at FirstBank, we are driven to bolster relationships on all fronts anywhere and anytime”, he averred.

On how secure the platform is and services customers stand to enjoy, the bank’s Chief Executive Officer said, “ Banking with FirstBank on WhatsApp is secure, accessible and convenient.

You can now carry out basic banking transactions such as inter and intra bank funds transfer, pay bills, buy airtime, buy data and check your account balance on your WhatsApp.

“You will be able to generate a WhatsApp banking PIN and all your transactions, authentications will be done using a safe link, thereby ensuring the security of your banking details.

In the same vein, Head, Digital Lab,FirstBank Nigeria Ltd, Mrs Lola Ekugo, says measures have been put in place to prevent customers’ details from being exposed to the outside world, adding that transactions were secure end to end.

It would be recalled that FirstBank recently launched its Digital Lab and subsequently hosted the Hackathon –a coding competition that allows developers and young like minds within the tech ecosystem to come together and code at a stretch to birth products that can solve various problems for customers – as part of its resolve to advance the financial ecosystem through technology.
