We wanted Uwa for rituals – Suspects confess

The six suspects who allegedly raped and killed Uwaila Vera Omozuwa, a 100-Level Microbiology student of the University of Benin, in a church in Ihovbe quarters in Benin, have confessed to the crime, Daily Times Nigeria reports.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Kokumo, on Wednesday who paraded the six suspects identified them as Nelson Ogbebor, Akato Valentine, Mrs. Tina Samuel, Mrs. Mary Ade, Nosa Osabohien and Collins Ulegbe.

According to reports, Collins who said he attends the same church as Uwa, said one Mrs. Mary Ade offered them one million Naira to use Uwa for ritual purposes of which she denied the allegation. 

Meanwhile, in a statement, the police commissioner said, “The matter was a great concern to the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Muhammed Adamu who sent to us here in Benin, Homicide experts to work with our policemen at the state criminal investigation department.

“What we are seeing today, is a result of the uniting efforts of the police to get at the root of the crime, and today, I announce to you and made public through this medium that the perpetrators have been arrested.

“The postmortem results had actually confirmed that she was raped”, he said.
