Wase tasks Christians to pray for peace, leaders
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase has challenged Christians to sustain prayers for leaders in the country to deliver on their mandate even as he advised constituents to hold their representatives accountable.
He also tasked the church to rise up in prayers with a view to seeking God’s intervention in some of the challenges bedevilling the country with a view to putting a stop to the ugly menace.
The deputy speaker, who made the call during a Thanksgiving mass at the St. Pius Catholic Rectory, Lough, Mbatyav in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue state in honour of the House member representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency, Rep. John Dyegh held, said it is with prayers that the security challenges facing the country can be effectively tackled.
Represented by the member representing Katsina, Ukum and Logo Federal Constituency, Rep. Richard Gbande, the deputy speaker, described Rep. Dyegh as a tested and experienced lawmaker whose contributions at the National Assembly were enormous.
He urged the people to continue to avail the lawmaker the needed support that will enable him continue to offer to effective representation while at the National Assembly and even beyond and called the people to hold their representatives accountable.
In his remarks, Rep. John Dyegh said the Thanksgiving mass was organized to thank God for his re-election for a third term as a member of the House of Representatives by his constituents, recalling that only God made it possible for him to retain his seat during the April general elections.
“Out of the 11 House of Representatives seats that we have in Benue state, I was the only person that won elections on the platform of the APC and like I said, only God can make such a thing happen and that is why l am here to return thanks to God,” the lawmaker added.
He charged the people to at all times keep faith in God, stressing that with hard work and faith, he was able to overcome the early challenges of life and sued for their continued support and prayers for him to overcome the challenges of providing dividends of democracy to the people.
Earlier in a sermon, Rev. Father Timothy Chior admonished Christians to imbibe the virtues of forgiveness, saying God is always willing to receive repentant sinners and thanked the lawmaker for returning to God in Thanksgiving over his blessings and urged others to do so to attract God’s blessings.
