Adedigba a God-fearing man who would be sorely missed – Buhari
Igboora (Oyo State) – Prominent Nigerians, including Sen. Abdulfatai Buhari (APC-Oyo North) and Dr Wale Babalakin, the Chairman of Bi-Courtney, on Sunday, besieged Igboora in Oyo State for the fidau prayer for the late Alhaji Atilola Adedigba.
The late Adedigba, a retired Permanent Secretary in the state, died on Feb. 11, at the age of 76.
Other prominent personalities at the programme were Chief Iyiola Oladokun, a former deputy governor of the state, Dr Tunde Ayeni, Chairman, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), Chief Bayo Oyero, Chief Diti Ladapo, Chief Bisi Adesola and Alhaji Tajudeen Aremu.
Also at the event were Dr Yunus Akintunde, a former Commissioner for Works in state as well as two former APC governorship aspirants in the 2019 general elections, Dr Olusola Ayandele and Chief Olasunkanmi Tegbe.
In his sermon, Prof. Abdulrahman Oloyede, the Chief Imam, University of Ibadan central mosque, described the late Adedigba as a devout Muslim whose sojourn on earth was a reflection of a wonderful being imbued with the fear of Allah.
He described the deceased as wonderful being who lived a fulfilled life and touched many lives.
Oloyede reminded the congregation that death was inevitable for every mortal, admonishing them to emulate the good virtues of the deceased.
In his tribute, Buhari described the late community leader as a God-fearing man who would be sorely missed by the people of Ibarapaland and the state in general.
Prof. Tunde Adeniran, a former Minister of Education, in his remarks, described the late Adedigba as a wonderful soul and great patriot.
“Our dear Atilola was a wonderful soul and great patriot. May the Almighty creator continue to guide and protect his wife, Alhaja Adedigba, the children and grandchildren and mercifully grant Atilola a well-deserved rest in Aljanah,” he said.
Mrs Omotayo Ikotun, a former Registrar, University of Ibadan, described the deceased as a humanitarian, integrity-personified and man of peace, who cared for fellow human beings unconditionally.
Also, Mr Dawood Afolabi, the state Coordinator, National Council of Muslim Youths Organisation (NACOMYO), recalled how the retired permanent secretary was bestowed with the award of ‘Most Distinguished Muslim Philanthropist’.
Alhaji Abdulwasiu Adebisi, a son in-law to the deceased, said that the late Adedigba was a highly-loved and respected man, adding he made positive impacts on everybody who came in contact with him.
He described him as selfless, unassuming, caring and supportive to his children and the society at large, saying that he was more of a father to him than an in-law.
“Though papa has left us, his legacy of commitment, hard work, selflessness and generosity will stay with us for a long time to come.
“Our great consolation is hinged on the enviable characters of his wonderful children, who will continue from where he left,” he said.
The ceremony was attended by former ministers, senators, career diplomats and captains of industry.
