WAEC partners EWAN to give education deserved priority

For the country to move forward and occupy its place in the comity of nations, education must be given its deserved priority as no nation can develop beyond the level of its education.
This assertion was made by the Head of National Office of the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), Mr. Olu Olanipekun, at the luncheon organised by the Council to honour members of the Education Writers Association of Nigeria (EWAN) at Excellence Hotel, Ogba, Ikeja recently.
According to the HNO, WAEC Nigeria has decided that within the next few months, it shall step out to take the lead in the share of knowledge, adding that assessment is a product of teaching and learning and as a Body concerned with assessment based on curriculum, there is the need to equip staff with Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
“In sharing knowledge with teachers in the classroom and other stakeholders in the education sector and drawing the attention of all concerned to the place of ICT, all staff of WAEC will be exposed to the pre-requisite of ICT. We will equip ourselves with ICT training relevant within the education sector so as to show the way to others”, he said.
Olanipekun therefore called on other bodies within and outside the country to partner with Council in achieving this goal.
Responding, Chairman of EWAN, Mr. Tubosun Ogundare, thanked WAEC for the kind gesture extended to members through the luncheon and urged the Council to consider training EWAN members on skills that will add value to their reportage.
He also called for support of the Council in the forthcoming EWAN Summit slated for September this year as well as WAEC response to members anytime on enquiries on some matters relating to Council.
