Vision Africa Radio unveils 10 music icons, holds personality awards

The Christian Vision Africa Radio (VAR) Umuahia weekend unveiled 10 music Icons finalists, while rewarding 6 Nigerians in Umuahia.
Speaking during the occasion, the President of VAR, Bishop Sunday Ndukwe Onuoha said the radio was set up 14 years ago “to mould the character and raise a generation that will be role models” in the country.
The societal system, he said is getting corrupt, while leaders who are supposed to be role models are derailing, advising that people can be millionaires without soiling their hands, adding that the essence of the festival was to raise people who believe that things can be done right.
According to him, great things can happen in the state and the entire country. He appealed to rulers in the south east and the country that “great things cannot only happen when there is Python Dance, it can happen when there is Chicken Dance”.
Also speaking, the retired Chief of Army Staff, COAS Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika said the occasion was because of the youths who he said “are the people that own the land’, adding “you can repair the roads, the bridge and other infrastructure,
but when the youths go bad, they cannot be repaired”, hence the need to start inculcating good morals into the youths and the children as the future of the nation.
Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika and some of the awardees, including Deacon Hon. Iyke Nwoke (former Umuahia North LGA chairman) and Lady Buchi Ojei (State Director, National Directorate of Employment) commended the President of VAR President,
Bishop Onuoha over his deliberate effort on unveiling talented Nigeria youths, adding that this year’s edition has much improvement over that of the past years.
The awardees felt honoured by the awards that will enable them do more for the society and for empowering the youths with their talents.
Lady Ojei urged VAR to expand the talent hunt to include drama presentation and more “to leverage the potentials of Abia youths who are rich in talents”.
“Some youths are lazy, but they should be able to exhibit their talents” for their good.
This year’s edition is the 5th and had 400 contestants who since July, 2018 came for auditioning, while elimination brought the finalists to 10 in number.
One Queen Esther Douglas won the music contest.
