Newly admitted students of the Bauchi state University, Gadau, have been urged to study hard in order to excel in their academic pursuits and to consider being admitted into the university as a great achievement in view of the number of applications received by the institution.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Auwalu Uba, stated this yesterday while speaking at the 2018/2019 matriculation ceremony held at the Yuli campus in Bauchi for newly admitted students.
Prof. Uba explained that 16, 908 candidates applied for admissions this year into the university out of which 6, 353 were admitted into the various programmes spread across the three operational campuses.
According to him, 5, 896 students have registered out of the 6, 353 that were admitted by the university.
“Matriculation confers on the participating students’ full membership of the institution having fulfilled all necessary requirements.
“Going by this, every matriculated student is entitled to all rights and privileges recognized by the university which include,e right to access information in the library and enjoyment of all available teaching and learning facilities in the university,” the vice chancellor said further.
He therefore, admonished them to shun all forms of social vices such as cultism, sexual misbehaviour, indecent dressing, examination malpractices, thuggery, fraudulent acts and other nefarious activities while in the school to avoid been expelled.
Delivering a paper with the theme: “Academic culture processes and procedures guiding studentship in the university system,” the Guest Speaker, Alhaji Aminu Tukur, told the students that those who have problems such as ill-health and financial difficulties could defer their admissions on payment of non -refundable fees.
He said students can have their courses changed when they cannot register for them due to observed deficiency, withdrawal on academic ground and interdisciplinary transfer due to low performance.
