USAID cuts halt HIV prevention in South Africa

A major HIV prevention initiative in South Africa has been suspended following funding cuts by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The abrupt halt to the program has raised concerns among researchers and healthcare professionals, who warn that it could severely impact vulnerable communities relying on its services.

Experts argue that the suspension violates “good clinical practices” and risks reversing progress made in the fight against HIV.

The program, which provided essential resources such as testing, counseling, and preventive treatment, played a crucial role in reducing transmission rates. Advocates are now urging alternative funding solutions to ensure continued support for those affected by the cuts.
