Uproar as Deputy Commissioner of Police, wife are butchered in Imo State

UThings have fallen apart for the Umuokeh community of Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State as yet-to-be identified persons on Friday slaughtered a retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, Innocent Brown and his wife in their home. The husband and wife were said to be murdered with a kitchen knife by the assailants who jumped over their fence, entered their home and used kitchen knife to severe the neck of the wife while the husband who has been suffering from stroke was equally killed through the slicing of his ribs. Neighbours who spoke exclusively to The Daily Times at the scene of the dastardly act, said the incident happened in the night of Thursday, December 13, 2018, at about 9:30pm, when they heard the cry coming from the compound of the retired Police DCP. By the time they rushed to the place, broke the locked gate and moved in, the killers had already escaped, having completed their wicked act, leaving the knife they used in killing both of them in the house. When The Daily Times correspondent moved to the mortuary where the two corpses were deposited, the morticians told our correspondent that the corpses were brought there by 12:11am on Friday. The corpses, according to the morticians, were brought to the mortuary by one of the kinsmen and three police officers. There is palpable anxiety in the community as youths are demanding immediate explanation to what happened and threatening to embark on a protest if nothing is done urgently to unravel the circumstances leading to the death of the retired Police officer and his wife. However, the Police have deployed its personnel for effective control of the situation to ensure there is no breakdown of law and order.  When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Imo State confirmed the tragic news, but emphasised that he was yet to get full details of what transpired, as it is a serious matter that needs serious investigations with much details. Late retired DCP Innocent Brown, who had been at his home for years after retirement from the Nigerian Police officer, started a wholesale business on drinks, in his community, at Afor Umuokeh junction. He was murdered alongside his second wife. His first wife and children have not been around for some time now.
