Umuenze youths send SOS to Anambra govt

The youths of Umuenze community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State have called on Anambra State government to quickly intervene in the various problems that have thwarted the progress of the community.

The youths, numbering over one thousand, took to the street in a peaceful protest against power tussle, vandalisation of transformer, corruption and other social ills that had eaten deep the progress of the community.

The four hours protest witnessed carrying of placards with inscription “No more illegal arrest”, “There should be peace in Umunze “, “UPU election must hold “, “We need youth empowerment “, and many others.

Addressing some journalists, the President Umunze Youths Association, Comrade Enye Amaechi, regretted that the community had been deprived of developmental projects due to power tussle among the political bourgeoises.

He said: “For 13 years now, we have not had President General and it has been affected us politically. Because of this, we, the youths, have decided to conduct the election come January 2.

We don’t have any representative. Even our House member in the state House of Assembly, Hon Nikky Ugochukwu, has never attracted any meaningful development.”
Speaking on power supply in the community, Mr. Amaechi bemoaned consistent epileptic power supply, irrespective of Governor Obiano’s intervention geared towards providing 16 hours power supply.

He said: “We have not had steady power supply since Governor Obiano restored our light after over 13 years power failure in the community.

EEDC has been sabotaging the present administration, denying us of the light and at the end of the month, they will give us outrageous bill,” he lamented.

On his part, the Vice President of Umunze Youth Association, Mr. Onwuzulike Livinus, called Federal Government and management of Federal Technical College, Umunze to always release the fund mapped out for social responsibility, saying the youth had been neglected with no privilege of employment in the school.

We have graduates in the community, but the management of Federal Technical Umunze has denied our youths of employment in the institution. They fill our quota with ghost workers, denying us our dividend of democracy,” Onwuzulike added.

Also, one of the female representatives in the youth association, Miss Ohabasirim Oluebube harped on the need to adequately empower the female graduates to save them from constant experience of sexual harassment in a bid to search for job.

Every effort to reach the House member, Nikky Ugochukwu proved abortive as she didn’t pick her calls.
