Udom’s wife advocates for more leadership opportunities for women

The wife of Akwa Ibom state Governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel has observed that more leadership opportunities should be given to women in order to meet the 35 per cent affirmation action plan.
Addressing members of Akwa Ibom state University Women Association (AKSUWA) during a one -day workshop on the theme: “The excellency of women” held last weekend at the university main campus, Ikot Akpaden in Mkpat Enin Council Area, Mrs. Emmanuel described women as stabilizers in the society.
“Women are stabilizers; I thank God for making me a woman. We are strong and we have a lot to offer, but opportunities are not there. God would help us to achieve our purpose. We are created to add value, ” she said.
Mrs. Emmanuel promised to support the women in all their endeavours and provided a takeoff grant to reposition them in their strive for excellence.
Vice Chancellor of Akwa Ibom state University, Prof. Eno Ibanga appreciated Governor Udom for the massive development in terms of infrastructure in the state owned university and vowed to work for the growth and interest of the institution.
Prof. Ibanga, who described women as indispensable in the life of men and charged them to continue in the task of contributing to the success of the society.
Addressing participants at the workshop, the President of Akwa Ibom state University Women Association and wife or the vice chancellor, Dr. Mrs. Ebi Eno – Ibanga said the association is aimed at supporting women’s professionals in their personal development through education and training.
She said such adventure would promote peace and justice among university women, build capacity of women through entrepreneurship, stimulate attachment among women and the girl – child.
“I believe that every woman is a star and therefore, needs to be treated as a queen. God has placed something unique in every woman to enable us shine forth. We are to render help to our husbands, but our communities must benefit from us as helpers of destiny,” she added.
