Two children killed as building collapses in Lagos


The heavy downpour on Wednesday, has led to the collapse of a storey-building, at No. 46 Gafari Balogun Street, Ogudu in Lagos, killing two children. 

According to eyewitness account, the building collapse which happened around 12:40 p.m. was caused by mudslide.
It was gathered that the two children, a male and a female, were trapped in the rubbles of the collapsed building, before they were recovered dead by emergency responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA). 
Speaking on the incident, the DG/CEO of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu said the remains of the deceased persons have being deposited at a morgue. 
Oke-Osanyintolu also said the remaining part of the building has been cordoned off, as integrity test will be carried out on it.
He said: “ On arrival at the scene by agency responders, it was observed that a building collapsed as a result of a mud slide at the rear of the building caused by heavy rainfall. 
“ The agents were informed that two children, one male and one female were trapped and immediately commenced a search and rescue operation. 
“ Unfortunately, they were found dead and their remains are being transported to the mortuary. Integrity test will be carried out on the remainder of the building which has now been cordoned off. ”
