Tinubu appoints Abbas to lead APC reconciliation panel In Bauchi
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house of representatives, as chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) reconciliation committee in Bauchi state.
A statement from the speaker’s office on Sunday said the committee is tasked with resolving internal disputes in the Bauchi chapter of the party.
Members include Mai Mala Buni, governor of Yobe state; Yakubu Dogara, former speaker of the house of representatives; Abdullahi Abubakar Gumel, senior special assistant to the president on national assembly matters (senate); and Ibrahim Masari, senior special assistant to the president (political).
Others are Usman Abubakar Gotomo and Jake Dan-Azumi, chief of staff to the speaker, who will serve as secretary.
The Abbas-led committee held its first meeting in Abuja in late July to map out its approach.
Abbas said the prolonged crisis in Bauchi APC warranted presidential intervention. He added that Tinubu carefully chose members based on integrity and capacity, urging them to complete the task within a month, ahead of the APC congresses.
The meeting reviewed the roots of the crisis, traced to the party’s 2015 primaries, and resolved to embark on a fact-finding mission with stakeholders.
On July 31, the panel met key Bauchi APC figures at the Yobe governor’s lodge in Abuja, with Buni chairing in Abbas’s absence.
Attendees included Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar and Isa Yuguda, former Bauchi governors; Surat Dada and Salisu Matori, former senators; and Mohammed Ali Pate, minister of health.
Other stakeholders present were Abdulmalik Mahmood, Abubakar Maikafi, Tijjani Mohammed Ali, Yahaya M. Miya, Ibrahim B. Hassan, Sanusi Hamisu Ileli, Miro Lallop, Habib B. Aliyu, and Abdullahi Shehu Abdulkadir.
The committee is expected to submit its report in the coming weeks for further presidential action.
