Thieves raid doctors’ quarters in UBTH

Doctors residing at the Doctors’ quarters in the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin, are lamenting that their lives and property are no longer save as thieves continue to raid their houses.

One of the doctors who would not want his name mentioned said, “the thieves came again today in the early hours of Saturday, 16th July, 2016. Though, I was awake until 2am in the sitting room following up the military coup in Turkey, but later went in to sleep. Before then, I had the urge to pack all the laptops and tablets in, only to be awaken by my wife that the nets are torn.

“When I got there, all the nets to the rooms were torn, they took the laptop bag and the tablet’s pouch, and threw them away disappointedly because there was nothing there.”

The doctor said, though, they could steal nothing but an end must be put to this.

Also, a doctor’s car was smacked even though, the thieves could not make away with it.

When our correspondent visited the quarters, there were razor blades the thieves used to tear the nets, to carry out their evil deeds.

Daily Times learnt that, this is not the first time thieves would be raiding the doctors’ quarters.

Daily Times also gathered that, there are several times thieves had made away with doctors belongings in the hospital premises and at the quarters without the security officers doing nothing about it.

Another doctor said, “some time ago, I packed my car in front of the security post and the thieves made away with my car at day time and when I reported to the security officers, they did nothing about it till date. Few months ago, a thief smacked a doctor’s car in front of the security post and they claimed they know nothing about it. How long shall we continue like this?”

However, the doctors said, they have made a formal complaint to the security officers but as at the time of filing in this report, none of the security officers had visited the doctors’ quarters.
