Suspended NHIS boss refuses to hand over

The suspended Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Prof Usman Yusuf, is yet to hand over the affairs of the agency to the most senior official.
The development, The Daily Times gathered, was sequel to his inability to turn up at his office on Friday.
The Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, who is also supervising minister of the agency, has directed Yusuf to proceed on there months suspension, pending the conclusion of investigation over alleged misconduct and spending of public funds beyond his approval limit.
The embattled NHIS boss had been directed by the Federal Government to transfer his authority to the most senior officer in the NHIS , Attahiru Ibrahim.
But the suspension of Yusuf came couple of weeks after the Senate had launched investigations into his activities as the NHIS chief.
The lawmakers had accused Yusuf of “corrupt expenditure of N292 million” which he allegedly spent on health care training “without recourse to any appropriate approving authority.”
