Stay off politics to avoid crisis in your kingdoms, Wike warns traditional rulers

Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike of Rivers state, Tuesday, in Port Harcourt charged traditional rulers in the state to use their positions to advocate for peace and development in their various communities rather than indulge in partisan politics.

The governor gave the warning at the event marking the 97 years birthday ceremony of HRH, Eze Dr. Jobson Anyabeledike, Eze Esara 111, Nyerisi Mbam Oro-Esara, kingdom in Obio Akpor local government area.

Governor Wike who was represented by the Special Adviser on Lands in the state, Sir Anugbum Onuoha, regretted that involvement in politics by some traditional rulers had engendered development in their communities as well as caused avoidable crises.

“I want to use this opportunity to urge our royal fathers to desist from political activities and support the good work of the state government. We have witnessed crisis in many kingdoms as a result of their traditional involvement in politics,” he said.

The governor commended the Elders of Evo Kingdom for their peaceful disposition and their continuous prayer and support for the state government.

He continued: “I am here today because of the peaceful disposition in this kingdom, the people of Elimbu and the entire Evo kingdom is very peaceful. They are peaceful because the traditional rulers are not involved in politics,”

He, then, lauded HRH, Eze Dr, Amb, Jobson Anyabeledike, Eze Esara (3rd), Nyerisi Mbam Oro-Esara and the entire people of Evo Kingdom, while charging other traditional institutions in the state to emulate his peace mantra.
