South-East: FG releases list of 69 ongoing roads, bridge projects

The Federal Government has released the list of the 69 ongoing road and bridge projects in the South-east (please see attached list). Mr. Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, on Monday in Abuja, stated that though the contracts for many of the roads were awarded before the advent of this Administration, they were either poorly funded or not funded at all, hence work on the roads has lingered.

The Minister said the 69 roads and bridges, which are spread across the five states in the South-east, are now in different stages of completion, thanks to the funding sourced by the present Administration from budgetary allocations, the Sukuk Bond and the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund.

He said the government is also looking into the possibility of using a part of the recovered looted funds to fund the development of infrastructure across the country.

While announcing the projects, which include the rehabilitation of the existing Niger Bridge as well as the construction of the 2nd Niger Bridge last week, Alhaji Mohammed promised to publish the full list of the roads and bridges, as well as give a state-by-state breakdown of the total figure.

Some of the 69 listed projects include: Abia State: Construction of Nkporo-Abiriba-Ohafia Road in Abia State C/No. 6130 awarded to Dutum Construction Nigeria Limited at the cost of N2,739,105,600.20;

Rehabilitation of Umuahia-Bende-Ohafia Road,C/No. 5821 in Abia State awarded to Niger Construction Limited N2,093,033,385.88; Rehabilitation of Bende – Arochukwu – Ohafia Road Section II, awarded to Hartland Nigeria Limited at the cost of N199,475,325.00.

Others are: Rehabilitation of Bende – Arochukwu – Ohafia Road Section I in Abia State awarded to Hartland Nigeria Limited at the cost of N5,490,680,078.33; Emergency Repairs of Failed Section in Umuahia-Ariam-Ikot Ekpene Road awarded to Desak Construction Coy Nigeria Limited at the cost of N156,469,825.05;

Construction of Ahiakwu-Amangwo-Umuahia-Ngwa-Ngwa Road in Abia State C/No. 6094 awarded to La Ann Engineering Nigeria Limited at the cost of N589,554,307.65; Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Enugu-Port Harcourt Dual Carriageway Section I: Lokpanta-Umuahia Tower (CH. 61+000-CH. 120+500) in Abia State. C/No. 6208 awarded to Setraco Nigeria Limited at the cost of N39, 548,900,597.79.

Also, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Enugu-Port Harcourt Dual Carriageway Section II: Umuahia Tower-Aba Township Rail/Road Bridge Crossing (CH. 120+500-CH. 176+600) in Abia State.

C/No. 6209 awarded to Arab Contractors Nigeria Limited at the cost of N50,892,770,722.04; construction of Olokoro-Isiala-Oboro-Nnono Junction Road in Abia State C/No. 6091 awarded to Bok Company Nigeria Limited at the cost of N515,315,493.00;

construction of Olokoro-Aluaukwu-Itaja-Okwu-Obuohia-Ikwuano Road C/No. 6063 awarded to Rhas Nigeria Limited at the cost of N990,673,340.00;

construction of Abriba-Arochukwu-Ohafia Road in Abia State, C/No 6158 awarded to Beks Kimse Nigeria Limited at the cost of N2,265,982,372.50;

For Anambra State, the list of projects include: Rehabilitation of Umana-Ndiagu-Ebene-Amansi Awka Express Road,C/No. 5874 awarded to Master Holdings Nigeria Limited at the cost of N734,039,288.90;

Rehabilitation of Onitsha bound Carriageway of the Onitsha-Enugu Road (Phase II, Section I) C/No. 5929A awarded to CCC Construction Nig. Limited at the cost of N4,613,734,090.35; construction of the Main works including Associated Infrastructure for the Second Niger Bridge linking Anambra and Delta States C/No.6475 ANAMBRA/DELTA awarded to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc at the cost of N206,151,693,014.87.

Emergency Repairs of Existing Niger Bridge at Onitsha/Asaba in Anambra/Delta States C/No 6206 awarded to Matiere-Johnson Consortium Limited at the cost of N8,005,181,313.52; construction of Ihiala-Orlu Road in Isseke Town-Amafuo-Ulli with Spur (Ihiala-Orlu-Umuduru Section) in Anambra State, C/No. 6220 awarded to Tomline Nig. rehabilitation of Abakaliki-Afikpo Road Section II: Abomega-Afikpo Road in Enugu State, C/No. 5989A awarded to CCECC Nigeria Limited N3,500,000,000.00; construction of Nnenwe-Uduma-Uburu Road.
