Son disowned by family over his IPOB membership and mother’s origin

By Emma Eze, Enugu

A middle-aged man identified as Chukwunonso Ani has been ostracized from his Enugu State community after his family rejected his existence, all because he has a northern woman’s blood in him.

Chukwunonso Ani was born in 1981 to his father, Mr. Michael Ani;who’s an Igbo man from the eastern part of Nigeria and mother, Aisha Ani;who’s a Hausa woman from the northern part of Nigeria.

According to source, it was gathered that Chukwunonso Ani’s trouble predates his birth as his father’s kinsmen had kicked against his father’s plan then to marry a Hausa woman.
Michael Ani, who was then residing in the North, Precisely Kano State got the marriage to the Hausa woman consummated, despite the opposition from his people. This became the genesis of the problem because the family never for one day accepted the woman as one of them.

“Even when she gave birth to Chukwunonso, he was never accepted as a descendant of the family and he was never allowed to come close to the community,” the source stated.
According to source, it was gathered that the marriage between Micheal and Aisha crashed because, she could not handle the community pressure.

It was further learnt that Chukwunonso later became an apologist of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, and rose to a commanding height in the Kano State chapter of the group.

“Due to his desire of pushing for the interest of Ndigbo, he became a strong member of IPOB, and as a result, he was arrested in 2013, arraigned and remanded in prison by a Kano magistrate Court.

“His father kept fighting for his release and this action cost him his life too, as he was said to have been shot by security agencies, who till date have refused to release his corpse to the family for burial.

Due to all these sad events, the Ani family had a meeting in December 2020, where they resolved and announced that they have disowned and ostracised Chukwunonso Ani, for being a product of a marriage to a Northern woman, that was not done with the support of the family, and for bringing shame to the family. They are also angry that his involvement in IPOB activities led to the death of his father.

“They announced that wherever they see him, he would face the music,” the community source disclosed.
