Shi’a: Two Allegedly Shot Dead, scores injured in Kano

Two members of the Islamic movement of Nigeria otherwise known as Shi’a movement were allegedly shot dead on Sunday in Kano.

The victims, according to the group, lost their lives at Gyedi-Gyedi roundabout when mobile police officers opened fire on the group whom were holding their annual match to Zaria.

The group in an earlier announcement on Saturday stated that group considering the nature of security in the country, would not be trekking to Zaria this year but would mark it’s annual gathering in an out sketch village, far away from the city area.

Report has it that many other members of the Shi’a movement sustained varying degrees of injury while the bodies of the two persons a male and a female were taken away by the mobile police men.

The state’s police public relation officer DSP Majia has however denied the knowledge of the incidence that their men fired at the congregation. Noting that the state’s commissioner of police heard a discussion with leaders of the group on Saturday where he advised them not to embark on any street match to avoid any form of breakdown of law and order but that the group refused to heed to the advice.

Recall that the group also lost ten of its members (official figures) last year during their annual trek to Zaria when the group and the Nigeria police force had a face off at Kura along Kano-Zaria Road.
