Chris Emetoh, Abuja
The Senate Tuesday moved a motion against increase in mob killing without recourse to justice and the law enforcement agencies.
The motion in which the Senate, in its resolutions, urged the police to properly investigate perpetrators of mob attacks throughout the country and bring such persons to book, was prompted by the alleged killing of a seven-year-old boy in Lagos for allegedly attempting to steal ‘garri’ a local staple, in Orile, Lagos State recently.
Debating the motion co-sponsored by Senator Ali  Ndume (Senate Leader) and Senator Gbenga Ashafa, the senate condemned the rising cases of jungle justice in the country and urged the police and other security agencies to live up to their responsibilities to protect the citizens, adding that the Senate should urgently accelerate the passage of the anti jungle justice Bill before it.

Other resolutions passed by the Senate was that the Attorney General of the Federation, the state Attorney Generals and the police to show greater sense of duty in the diligent apprehension and prosecution of this kind of offence.

These resolutions by the Senate was due to a motion titled “Rising cases of jungle justice in the country”.
