Sen. Orji fetes constituents, presents score-card

The immediate past governor of Abia State and now Senator representing Abia Central in the National Assembly, Sen. Theodore Ahamefula Orji, Sunday feted his constituents who passed vote of confidence on him.
The Senator also used the opportunity to present his score-card as their representatives.
Speaking at the occasion which held in Umuahia North LGA headquarters, Sen. Orji described the process of drafting bills and that of law-making as not easy for him as the field is new to him, pointing out however that when it comes to governance, that he is an expert.
He disclosed that there is a close harmony with all Abia lawmakers in the National Assembly and restating the resolve of all of them to move the state forward.
According to him, he has carved out a niche for himself as one of the most active, proactive and productive legislator in the red chamber, stating that in line with the three major functions of a legislator namely, lawmaking, representation and oversight functions, he has performed “creditably well”.
It would be recalled that in June 2016, he was rated the 3rd “Most Productive Senator” in Nigeria, having sponsored three motions which resulted in the resolution of the Senate on mandating the Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB to publish the reports of its investigation into the issues of Air accidents in the country, the resolution mandating the Federal
Government to set up the Public Procurement Council as well as and on the need to check indiscriminate blasting of rock in the Federal Capital Territory and other parts of Nigeria in accordance with international best practices.
Sen. Orji disclosed that he sponsored nine bills, one of which has been passed into law, while on representation, said he has given his constituents “quality and unprecedented representations by delivering democracy dividend to them.”
He listed some of what he has done for them to include scholarship award to more than 200 students, many constituency projects littered all over the constituency.
They include rural electrifications, rehabilitation of roads and bridges, and many more. He called on all to be steadfast.
Speaking, Col Austin Akobundu (rtd) said that what was important is Sen. T A Orji’s open door policy, as well as his listening ears, expressing his awareness of the various bills the senator has proposed at the Senate, describing the bills as quality ones.
Akobundu, who is a former Minister of State, Defence confirmed that all that Sen. Orji had attracted to the area are all of quality, expressing his happiness on the relationship existing between the senator and other representatives from the state.
“I am mandated to encourage him to do more”, he said and urged people to draw Sen. Orji’s attention to their areas of need.He pledged the support of the constituents and called for prayers for the senator to continue to succeed.
Also speaking, an elated Executive Chairman of Isiala Ngwa South, Ginger Onwusibe said all Sen. Orji told his constituents was the truth, stating that his representation in the Senate was good.
“He looked after Ngwa people very well and has helped them to achieve a feat that has eluded them for centuries by ensuring that they produce the governor of the state from Ngwa extraction,” he said stating that Ngwa people is ready to ensure Sen. Orji goes back to the red chamber, come 2019.
Accorsing to a former commissioner in the state, Prince K. O. Mgbeahuru from Osisioma LGA, Sen. Orji is well known to the Osisioma people, who have already expressed their desire to vote in the senator come 2019.
Based on the applause that greeted the senators speech and gratitude to the people for their support, a former Majority Leader in the state House of Assembly and who is from Ikwuano LGA, Hon. Wisdom Ogbonna proposed a vote of confidence on Sen. Orji and was seconded by the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and who is from Umuahia North, Chief Charles Ogbonna.
Conducting the proposal, the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly and who is representing Isiala Ngwa North, Bar Chikwendu Kalu added a legislative touch by announcing the decision of the “yes” and the “no”, the “Yes” carried the day.
The jubilation was heightened by the ecstasy from the women of the constituency who were led by Hon. Mrs. Uchechi Ogbonna from Umuahia South.
