A civil society group, under the aegis of Society for Educational Development and Socio-Democratic Activities (SEDSAC) has lambasted members of the National Assembly and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the leadership crisis of the incoming 9th assembly.
State Executive Director of the group, Umar Hamisu Kofar Na’isa, who issued a statement to journalists in Kano on Thursday, said the current leadership dispute among APC members in the National Assembly had overheated the polity.
According to the group, the development had also exposed the inadequacy of the real concept of democratic capacity among members of the major political parties in the country.
SEDSAC also observed that the strong aspiration for leadership of the legislature is contrary to the interest of the public, adding that it was a ploy by the political elites to achieve their goal.
The group called on the lawmakers to be more concerned about economic and security challenges bedeviling Nigeria, instead of being busy quarrelling over the leadership of the 9th assembly.
“Similarly, there were misunderstanding between the 8th assembly and the executive arms of government, which was a negative implication to democracy and socio-economic development of the country in the first tenure.
“In view of the foregoing, SEDSAC advocates for maximum cooperation between the three arms of government towards getting things done,” the statement said.
