SAD! 5 Feared Dead In Uyo Stadium

Bloodstains were seen on the gate of the stadium while policemen and personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps were seen standing beside some unconscious fans.
The joyous mood that trailed Nigeria’s qualification for the Russia 2018 world cup on Saturday was punctured after five people were feared dead while scores sustained serious injuries.
This followed a stampede that occurred at the entrance of Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Punch reports that the fans, who were at the stadium to watch a match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Chipolopo of Zambia were allegedly beaten by soldiers at the gates with heavy sticks.
The stampede occured as the crowd tried to avoid the soldiers’ sticks.

The Punch correspondent, who said he lost 10,000 naira in the stampede, was also assaulted by one of the soldiers with a big stick.
Some of the fans had as a result vowed never to go to their again, adding that they escaped death by the whiskers.
