Runsewe commends EFCC, seeks for support

The Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, NCAC, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for its unrelenting efforts in championing the anti-corruption crusade of the President Muhammadu Buhari- led administration.
Runsewe, who made the commendation during a visit to the EFCC Headquarters, on Tuesday, noted that the anti-graft agency has so far played a pivotal role in the fight against corruption.
He said, “There is an aspect of culture to the fight against corruption, and it must be stressed that the EFCC, through the whistle-blowing policy, has achieved a lot in the area of recovering stolen funds.”
Noting that at every instance, corruption would fight back, Runsewe stated that “anyone fighting the EFCC and its leadership is opposing the fight against corruption”.
He also stressed the important role that the implementation of the Bank Verification Number, BVN, and the Treasury Single Account, TSA, have played in aiding the efforts of the EFCC at curbing treasury looters.
“We want to thank you for re-inventing a culture of forthrightness, and re-orienting our value system so that Nigerians see that corruption does not pay,” Runsewe added.
Responding, the acting chairman of the EFCC, Mr Ibrahim Magu, who received Runsewe and the NCAC management team, appreciated the gesture, and used the occasion to call for collaboration with the NCAC.
Magu said, “Corruption has eaten so deep into the fabrics of our society and it’s a major threat to the unity of our country.”
He also said that the development calls for a common consensus among all Nigerians, aimed at ensuring a better future for the country.
Magu also stressed the need to “stop celebrating corrupt people, and let them know that corruption is evil and it should be shunned”.
