RSG backs PH Golden Jubilee Polo tourney

The Rivers State Government (RSG) has assured the people of the state that it would support the forthcoming Port Harcourt Golden Jubilee Polo Tournament as it would have positive impact on the state’s economy.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Port Harcourt Polo Club at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday, the governor of the state, Chief Nyesom Wike, stated that the Polo Tournament which was expected to attract Polo players from Argentina, South Africa, and Dubai would place Rivers State on the international business map.
The governor said that his administration would support the International Polo Tournament because it would afford the state the opportunity to highlight its potentials to the international community.
Also speaking earlier during the courtesy call, the President of the Port Harcourt Polo Club, Mr. Ibiwari Pepple, said that the Golden Jubilee Tournament would hold between January 8 and January 14, 2017.
Pepple revealed that well known players from Argentina, South Africa, and Dubai would attract business concerns to the state and sought the support of the Rivers State government for the successful hosting of the event.
He informed the governor that during the tournament, participating players and horses would dressed in ceremonial attires that would depict the culture of the state.
The Rivers State Golden Jubilee Anniversary was marked to celebrate 50 years of the creation of the State which took place on the May 27, 1967 by the then Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (Rtd).
The governor, last October, inaugurated a 151-member committee with Chief Ferdinand Anabrabra as the chairman, Chief Onueze Okocha (SAN) as alternate chairman, and Dr. Jacob Beredugo as secretary.
