Rowing course enriched our skills to develop sport — Participants

Some participants have described the three-day seminar organised by the Nigeria Rowing Canoeing and Sailing Federation (NRSF) as an initiative to empower rowing coaches in the country.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the seminar was organised in collaboration with the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).
The seminar, tagged “NOC/ Olympic Solidarity Seminar for Rowing Coaches”, was held on April 8 at the Navy Sailing Club in Ojo, Lagos.
The participants said the knowledge gained from the course would improve the skills of the coaches.
Ayo Momodu from Ondo State said the seminar was timely and had exposed them to latest coaching skills to develop the sport at the grassroots.
“It is a good development for the growth of rowing at the grassroots because I strongly believe that all the coaches will apply all they have learnt to develop the sport.
“It is a commendable thing that the NRSCF and the NOC collaborated in organising the seminar,” she said.
Adebola Olagunju, the NRSCF national coach, said the seminar was vital to the enhancement of coaches technically.
Olagunju said that the programme had afforded coaches the opportunity to learn new trends that will help them to be at par with their foreign counterparts.
“The seminar which is a training the trainee programme has been of benefit to all the participants.
“The federation is intensifying effort to spread the sport and I must say this seminar is coming at the right time,” he said.
Also, Dennis Aweh, a participant from Lagos, told NAN that the course had given him new insight about the sport.
Sally Mart a member of the British Rowing body was the resource person at the seminar which ended on Sunday.
