Rotary International celebrates 114 years of existence in Abia
The Rotary clubs in zone 5, Abia state, District 9142, Nigeria, which comprises Rotary clubs of Umuahia, Umuahia Central, Umudike Central and Umuahia North, joined other in the world to celebrate 114 years of Rotary International, as the orgnaisation was born on February 23, 1905, in Chicago.
This celebration took place at Rixos Continental Resort, New secretariat road, Umuahia.
Over 100 members participated in the celebration that started by 4:00pm, with their Rotary Prayer, opening remarks by the Assistant Governor, Rotarian Chimdi Oluoha, followed by Rotary Songs by Rotarian Smart Iwunze and Rotarian Nkeakamakolam (Aki and Pawpaw).
The special lecture was delivered by a guest lecturer from Enugu state, the Chairman onto Hamburg, Rotn. Past Assistant Governor (P.A.G) Okey Okonkwo, on the topic: “Revitalizing your Club from stagnant to sensational”.
The guest lecturer, Okonkwo, gave many reasons why Rotarians should continue to revitalize themselves in order to serve the public very well, especially in the persistent quest to end polio, provision of wheelchairs, giving scholarship to the needy, as well as other ways Rotary gives a helping hand to the society.
Rotarian Ezekwem Odigbo raised huge amount of money as the Sergeant At Arms (S.A.A) of the zone, which will be specifically used for charity projects. They celebration lasted till 7:05pm with their Rotary Grace said by all the Rotarians, while Rotarians were thanked by Assistant Governor, Rotn. Oluoha, for the peaceful participation of Rotarians during the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections that took place on Rotary birthday, February 23rd, all over Nigeria.
