Road Crash: 452 Killed In Plateau – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Plateau State Command, has said that 452 persons has been killed on road crashes in Plateau, between January and September 2016.

It also said that a total number of 1,048 road crashes has been recorded with 483 persons injured during the said period.

Speaking through its Deputy Route Commander, FRSC, Plateau Sector Command, Andrew Bala, on Thursday at the Peace Architecture Dialogue (PAD), organized by Search for Common Ground, Bala said that the reason for most road accidents, is as a result of drivers’ attitude towards non adherence to traffic rules.

He said if road crash deaths most be reduced, road users must change their driving behaviour, rather than advocating for good road infrastructure.

Mr. Bala said deaths and injuries due to crashes can also be reduced by 50% if drivers make commitment not to drink and drive, over speed, wear seat belts and helmets, not use phone or eat while driving and obey traffic rules.

However, the State coordinator, Search For Common Ground, Mrs Emmanuel Rita Atsen, stated that the reason for engaging the FRSC in discussing road crashes in this Ember months, is to remind road users on safety tips and the need to stay alive even as the year winds up.

Atsen said the Ember month is when a lot of people are trying to meet up with their goals in a rush as the year winds up and as a result, a lot of road crash occurs.
