Residence flee homes over renewed attack by cattle rustlers


 

Residents of Ogwashi-Uku/Kwale communities who have their houses along the ever busy Ogwashi-Uku/Ughelli Express Road in Delta State have fled their homes following renewed attack on them by suspected cattle rustlers.

While the suspected cattle rustlers’ activities have continued to create fear, investigation revealed that a motorist whose name could not be ascertained as the time of this report, was allegedly shot in the early hours of  Friday January 6 2017 along the Ogwashi-Uku/Kwale portion of the road  as he was driving towards Asaba alone in a commercial Audi 80 vehicle with registration number AS 263XX.

He was said to have been shot by the suspected cattle rustlers who were found prowling the scene when police arrived and found them blocking the road with their cattle.

Although the policemen from the Ogwashi-Uku Police Division who did not want their names in the print, confirmed that the victim died on his way to the hospital, they disclosed that six suspects were arrested on the spot, adding that the suspects are currently helping the police for further investigation.

Expectedly, motorists cum residents of the areas who spoke to our reporter, one of them, Benjamine Kennedy, said they have been robbed severally  on the road at nightfall  by the alleged cattle rustlers who often are armed with sophisticated guns.

Further investigation revealed that residential buildings along the Ogwashi-Uku/Ughelli road have been deserted by their owners who feared the unexpected by the  rampaging cattle rustlers.
