Regulatory agencies should see MAN as development partners – Babatunde
The chairman, Manufactures Association of Nigeria (MAN), Apapa Branch, Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Odunayo has said that, Regulating Agencies should see MAN as Development Partners by creating a nurturing relationship towards making the environment safer for all.
Babatunde who was represented by the first vice chairman of the association, Chief Joseph Onyebu disclosed this while delivering his opening remark at the 7th edition of mandatory environmental seminar with the theme; “Constructive Engagement of the Nigerian Manufacturers towards clean and safe environment” organized by the Apapa branch of the association recently in Lagos.
According to him, “The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria over the years has continued in its efforts on effective advocacy towards an improved business environment for the Nigerian manufacturers.”
He stated; “In the country today, it is known a fact that the manufacturing sector is merely surviving following the implementation of certain fiscal and macroeconomic policies.”
“There is no gainsaying the fact that several issues are negatively affecting business operations of the manufacturers. However, MAN has remained under constant dialogue with the Nigerian government at all levels towards resolving most of them, and this has gone a long way in establishing good working relationship/partnership with government agencies.
“It is quite surprising that the manufacturing sector against the very difficult monetary policy regime is struggling to survive, a situation that made some manufacturing outfits shut down operations, while some are holding on waiting for favourable policies to come up.” He noted
In his goodwill message, the Lagos State honourable commission for environment, Dr. Babatunde S. Adejare who was represented by the Director, Environmental Services, Dr. Mrs. Philips said that, “the state government and also the ministry of environment reckon with the challenges of manufacturers in Lagos State, but however call on the association to ensure total policies that regulate the activities of manufactures in the State.
The commissioner however noted that the ministry has put in place some guideline standard to ensure environmental pollution becomes a thing of the past, stressing that pollution control department of the ministry also provides a technical support for the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria in Lagos State to ensure that environmental policies are strictly adhered to.
