Rector lauds ban on post-UTME

The Rector of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, Ogun State, Dr. Femi Fatade, has said that the recent cancellation of Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) would help in repositioning technical education in Nigeria.
He said that the step wouldl help to boost the number of students seeking admission into the polytechnics and, therefore, remove the dichotomy between the Higher National Diploma and university degree holders.
His words, “Polytechnics and other institutions of higher learning will be able to be at par with the nation universities as the pegging of the cut-off marks to 180 will make all the students equal in admission requirements to any higher institution.
While applauding Education Minister Adamu Adamu for the policy, Fatade said that the ban on post-UTME had shown that the responsibility for admission into public tertiary institutions laid solely with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and under no circumstance, whatsoever, should anybody or institution take over that responsibility.
