Recession tops agenda as NASS resumes Monday

Indications have emerged that strategies to tackle the current economic recession in the country will top the agenda of the National Assembly as members resume plenary, on Monday, after a two-month vacation.

The lawmakers were originally scheduled to reconvene on September 13 but had to postpone the resumption by another week because the initial date coincided with the commencement of the Salah festivities.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, had, last week, pledged that the focus of the National Assembly, upon resumption, would be concentrated on finding ways to address the current economic recession in the country.

He had assured that the National Assembly would not rest on its oars until solutions to the current economic recession were found.

Other issues that would also receive the attention of the lawmakers, particularly the Senate is the confirmation of a number of statutory appointments made by President Muhammadu Buhari before and after the lawmakers commenced their break.

The President had sent two requests to the senate for the confirmation of some statutory appointments in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution. These appointments were those of the Managing Director and members of the Board of Directors of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Chairman and members of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
