Quit Notice: Hausa Community sues for peace, calls Arewa youth to order

As diverse opinions continue to trail the ultimatum issued by a coalition of Arewa youths to the Igbo living in the North to quit on or before October 1st this year, some Hausa leaders resident in Lagos have lent their voice on the issue.

At the annual lecture and award organized by the chieftaincy council of Hausa community in Alimosho local government area of Lagos, Seriki Hausawa, Alhaji Ahmed Haruna Kuraja, spoke on the theme ‘Diversity: A Veritable Tool For Improved Peaceful Co-existence, Cultural and Socio-Economic Growth and Development.’

According to him, diversity symmbolises progress in the life of man if properly harnessed especially in the inclusion of different types of people of different races or culture.

“It is not controvertible that there is power in majority as it affects decisions making in the entire life of man. It is the ability of man to maximally utilize the strength of majority that will translaye into critical decisions that will transform man from vulnerability to fortitude”, he said.

The Seriki Hausawa stressed that God made up Nigeria with more than 240 tribes, wondering how Nigerians are advancing the course of man utilizing the above facts.

“Alimosho Hausa community is pleased to say a new dawn has come and we are pledging our support to drive for peaceful co-existence, cultural and socio-economic growth and development in Alimosho to compliment the efforts of our host and other ethnic groups that make up Alimosho”, he said.

He said the grouop is ready to pursue this goal vigorously using the numerous Hausa leaders in charge of communities at various domains across the local government area as he seeks the cooperation of the government, traditional rulers and eminent persons as well as security operatives in actualizing the hallowed dream and vision.

A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Bisi Yusuf also called for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians irrespective of wherever they might find themselves saying Nigerian unity is not negotiable.

“What we are witnessing today is history for generations to come because this is the first time such will happen in Lagos, and it is adding excellence to the City of Excellence. There is no difference among all the tribes of this country, we are all one entity and we should see ourselves as such, ;et us talk to our brothers in the North to consider the Ibos in their midst as their brothers and sisters’, he said.

He cautioned them against beating the drums of war saying this will only damage the God given resources as saying

“Our Eastern brothers cannot drink their petroleum resource while our Northern brothers cannot use food items to fuel their vehicles for transportation, they need petroleum to do so this shows that we cannot do without one another”

In his own speech is the President of Nzuko Ndigbo Nigeria, Elder Vincent Iwobi, pleaded with the northern youths to withdraw their statements because they are being misled by some irresponsible individuals in the country.

“I witnessed Biafra warm we ate lizard, we cooked unripe pawpaw as yams, no food those who are beating the drum of war are doing so because they have never seen war, look at Lebanon it’s no more in existence today because of war, let us not start what we cannot finish”, he said.

National President Arewa United Consultative Forum, Alhaji Ado Shuaibu said government is promoting terrorism by encouraging those who have killed and maimed innocent people to come to the round table for dialogue.

He said the Arewa Youths giving quit notice to the Ibos in the North should be treated as traitors and charged for felony for trying to disturb the peace of Nigeria.

“This is my 34 years in Alimosho, the history of Hausas in the South east is over a century, the Arewa Youths are just making unnecessary noise because one of them is being trained by the South Eastern people, Nigerians should not pay attention to the threat the youths are just seeking for attention nobody should take them serious and it is the fault of the government who call terrorists for settlement ”, he said.
