Queen Worlu Foundation lifts 30 widows in FCT with loans

Ambassador Queen Worlu Foundation recently put smiles on the faces of 30 grassroots widows from Bwari and Gwagwalada area councils of the Federal Capital Territory as it launched its Revolving Empowerment Loan Scheme in partnership with Helpline Foundation.

Mr. Sam Worlu, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ambassador Queen Worlu Foundation, said the initiative raised N600,000 which he felt honoured to give to the women.

He implored the widows to comply with the way the initiative was designed, so that the Foundation could be encouraged to replicate the gesture for other people.

“We think this is one of the best ways that we can support people, because it’s better to teach people how to fish than just give them fish,” Worlu said, even as he congratulated the recipients and thanked Helpline Foundation for partnering on the initiative.

Funmi Ajare, a representative of Helpline disclosed that the women were empowered with N20,000 each. She said there were other women on the waiting list in the communities from where the recipients were drawn, Daily Times gathered.

She said the Foundation held an orientation session with the widows and that “a bit of financial literacy and savings culture is passed on to them and then seed funding is given to them.”

Ajare explained that at the end of every month, when the women meet and make their returns, each person would have her name written on a card and the returns would be marked.

She noted that, this way, the Foundation would be able to track those who were faithful.

One of the beneficiaries, Ms. Khadijat thanked the Foundation for coming to their aid.

Another, Terdoor Uba, said the recipients would make sure the gesture did not fail through abiding faithfully by the rules.

Member of the Foundation said, “We launched the revolving loan scheme for the benefit of women, particularly widows in Gwagwalada and Bwari. But we will not stop there.

We will be looking for women in Abuja and wherever they may be, in partnership with Helpline, to identify who needs help and how much.

This is our mission: to help the vulnerable.”
