PSV can beat Bayern – Willems

The Dutch champions’ left-back is confident that his side can upset the odds at the Allianz Arena, a thought that was shared by team-mate Davy Pröpper

PSV defender Jetro Willems believes his side can cause an upset when they face Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Dutch champions have taken just one point from their first two European encounters against Atletico Madrid and Rostov, and could fall five points behind the top two if they lose at the Allianz Arena.

But Willems thinks PSV could spring a surprise when they lock horns with the five-time European champions.

“It doesn’t matter if Bayern is in good or bad shape,” he told Goal. “We always have a chance against these kind of teams. I think both teams have chance to win. At this moment we are both in a difficult period. I look forward to the match and curious to the result.

“I can’t say anything about my battle with Arjen Robben, I don’t think it’s the time for that. We will see.

“We have to play like a team. You could see that we did this against Atlético and it almost gave us a result.”

Willems’ team-mate Davy Pröpper echoed the left-back’s thoughts, while also insisting that Bayern are one of the strongest teams on the planet.

“The Champions League is always a bit different,” he told Goal. “Bayern Munich are a world-class team. We will have to be at our best and play like a team. Then we have a chance.

“It will be difficult to qualify for the knockout phase. These two matches against Bayern will be decisive. After that I think I can tell you how our chances are.”
