With poverty in the land there can’t be peace -Cleric

As the federal and state governments are striving to face the security challenges facing the country, a cleric, Venerable Abiodun Oyindamola Oriola, the Provost of African Church, Owu Totoro Abeokuta has called on all tiers of government to as a matter of urgency stamped out poverty among Nigerians.

Ven Oriola, who made the call at the thanksgiving service to commence the 2016 Press Week of the Ogun state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Sunday, advised government to make the well-being of the masses a priority in every scheme of things with a view to stamping out poverty in the country.

He also charged government to also improve the working conditions of the workforce to achieve the desired results for enhanced National Development.

The Provost also harped on the need for the authorities to formulate policies and programmes that will rid the country of corrupt tendencies and enhance human development also advised the nation’s leaders to get it right and improve on the wellbeing of the citizenry.

According to the cleric, for the nation to attain its desired height, government must improve the economy, security, food production, level of literacy, health care services and also make agriculture attractive to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country.

While congratulating the NUJ members for witnessing another year and putting God first in the Press week, the Cathedral provost, charged the pen professionals not to renege in their service to humanity, noting that, as the eye of the people, they should ensure that their reportage is balance, without fear or favor and always be at the Vanguard of truth.
