Police Service Commission to name DIG today

The Police Service Commission may today name the new Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) following a request it received from the acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to elevate some police officers to the rank of DIG to enable him constitute his management team. Members of the Police Service Commission on Monday began consideration of the names of some top police officers shortlisted for the post and would continue the meeting today, the spokesman of the Commission, Chukwu Ani, told some journalists on Monday. The acting Inspector- General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had sent the names of new Deputy Inspectors -General of Police to the Police Service Commission for consideration and approval. It was speculated on Monday that the nominees include the Force Secretary, Taiwo Lakanu; former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde, and four others. The Police Service Commission was expected to announce the names of the DIGs late Monday but was not through with its deliberations at the time of this report.
