Police restricts movements of persons, vehicles ahead re-run election in Bauchi
The Bauchi state Police Command has announced restrictions on movements of persons during the today re-run elections in Gamawa and Zaki Local Government Areas of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Kamal Datti said in a press release that the decision was taken after due consultations with relevant stakeholders superintending over the election.
“There will be total restriction of movement of persons and vehicles on the election day between 8:00am – 4:00pm in the affected areas where election will take place, except personnel on essential duties who must carry their valid identification card,” the police spokesman said.
Datti, who added that only eligible registered voters with valid permanent voters’ card will be allowed to vote and warned voters to keep a distance of at least 300 meters away from polling units in accordance with the Electoral Act after casting their votes.
While assuring the general public of adequate security and alevel playing ground for all political parties for a peaceful conduct of the re-run election, the police image- maker said that his men and other security agencies will be patrolling round the clock to ensure strict compliance to the restriction order.

“The police hereby, call on parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, opinion leaders and guardians to prevail on their children, subjects, adherents and wards not allow themselves to be used to cause disturbance of public peace before, during or after the election as anybody arrested in the act will face the full wrath of the law,” the release further said.
The elections will take place in Zaki and Gamawa Federal Constituencies of Bauchi state.
It would be recalled that the Court of Appeal, Jos had in November last year voided the election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker, Umar Tata, representing Zaki Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.
The same court had also nullified the election of Garba Gololo of the APC representing Gamawa Federal Constituency and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct re-run elections in the area within 90 days.
