Police parade arms dealers in A’Ibom

Two suspects, Emmanuel Akamaba, 38, and Ezekiel Adie, 35, have been paraded by the policein Akwa Ibom State for gun running.

Parading the suspects at the state police headquarters, at Ikot Akpan Abia, at the weekend, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Murtala Mani, said the suspects were among nine other suspected criminals arrested in the state.

According to him, the arrest was made by officers of the command at various locations, during-stop-and-search operations on highways.

Mani, who was represented by the state public relations officer (PPRO) of the command, ASP Cordelia Nwawe, said the stop- and-search exercise was one the proactive measures taken by the command to rid the state of criminal elements.

He said that Akamaba and Adie both from Ogoja in Cross River State, were arrested with four locally-made pistols along Calabar/Itu highway by Safer Highway Patrol team, who carried out a search on the vehicle which they travelled in.

In their confessional statement, both Emmanuel and Ezekiel admitted to the crime.
