Police nab suspected armed robbers, kidnappers, recover N5m in Yobe

Two suspected armed robbers as well as three suspected kidnappers have been arrested by the Yobe state Police Command, the state Commissioner of Police, Sahabo Abubakar, has said.

A press release signed and issued in Bauchi on Sunday by the command’s image-maker, Dungus Abdulkarim said “during the week under review, the personnel of Yobe command succeeded in arresting notorious kidnappers in an operation led by Divisional Police Officer of Fika Divisional Police Station.”
According to Abdulkarim, the suspected kidnappers include Babawuro Haruna, Ahmadu Jafaru and Mohammed Haro, all of Fika Local Government Area.
He said that the culprits use phone calls and other related means to threaten and intimidate their victims with kidnapping and armed robbery in order to extort money as ransom from them.
Abdulkarim said that the suspects were arrested in possession of dangerous weapons while attempting to collect the ransom of N5 million from two different kidnap victims.
The victims, according to the Police Public Relations Officer are Alhaji Ahmadu and Hajiya Hassana Idi, all of Fika Local Government Area.
Abdulkarim said further that similar incidents occurred in Potiskum where two suspected armed robbery and kidnap suspects were arrested while attacking the house of Alhaji Wami Abdullahi to rob him of N3.5 million.

He explained that the money was meant for the negotiated release of his son after he was kidnapped by the suspects who miraculously escaped from his abductors.
The police spokesman informed that personnel from Potiskum Divisional Police Station arrested two of the suspects, Umaru Ibrahim and Adamu Iliyasu while Siri Mamo, Kawuwa Masu, Dan Ali and Dodo whose second name is unknown are at large.
He noted that efforts ate ongoing to arrest the fleeing syndicate members for interrogation and subsequent prosecution.
According to him, the state Commissioner of Police, Sahabo Abubakar called on the law- abiding citizens to continue to support the police towards ensuring security in the state.
Abubakar while congratulating Christians in the state on the occasion of the 2020 Easter commemoration, enjoined them to ensure compliance with the restriction order and maintain social distancing as they go about their lawful activities during the celebration.
He further assured them of their safety and security throughout the holiday period and beyond.
