Police nab another self confessed Boko Haram kingpin in Ondo

Another suspected Boko Haram member identified as Mohammed Bashar was at the weekend apprehended by officers of the Ondo State Police Command.

Bashar was nabbed by men of the Anti-Crime Patrol Unit of the police command during a search at Isua and Ifira Akoko in the Akoko South East Local Government Area of the state.

His arrest is coming barely a two-week that a wanted Boko Haram Commander identified as Idris Ibrahim aka Babawo, was nabbed in a village by some vigilante group.

The self-confessed Boko Haram suspect was said to have ran for cover in the local community of Isua Akoko in Ondo state when he was nabbed by the police in the area.

Femi Joseph, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the State Command confirmed the arrest of the Boko Haram suspect to journalists in Akure on Sunday.

He said that the suspect was arrested by the police while loitering on the Isua-Ifira Akoko road after he had escaped from onslaught of the security in the north.

“When the suspect was arrested, he was interrogated and confessed that he was a member of the Boko Haram sect.

“He told us (the police) that his father is from Niger Republic while his mother is also from Maiduguri in Borno State, Nigeria.

“He said when Maiduguri was hot for him he ran to Nassarawa last month and he left Nassarawa yesterday (Saturday) and came down to the South-West to hide here.

“He has confessed that one Daffo is his team leader while Shekaur is still the overall leader of the Boko Haram group.

Mr. Joseph said some items suspected to be charms were recovered from the Boko Haram kingpin.

According to him, the suspect was still in the police protective custody as more investigation is being carry out.

He added that the Boko Haram kingpin will be handed over to the Nigeria Army at a parade after police investigation must have finally been conducted.

He also warned members of the public to try avoid taking laws into their hands when caught the suspicious movement of a stranger in their community.

The police spokesman, however, added that the command would continually ensure the safety of lives and properties of the people in the state.
