Police drag man to court for alleged theft of chopper bicycle

A man, Emmanuel Ita, 30, who allegedly stole a chopper bicycle  in Lagos on Monday, appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court presided over by Mr A. Adesanya.

The defendant, an apprentice in a mechanic workshop, was charged with a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit a felony and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Dec. 15 in the Ojo area of Lagos.

He said that the defendant and another person, stil at large, rode off the bicycle belonging to a complainant, Simon Stephen, which he had parked at Idowu Street in Ojo.

The bicycle is said to be valued N65,000.

The pirosecution said the defendant was heading to the Ojo Igbede road when he was accosted by the complainant, who consequently alerted the police.

The prosecutor said that the accomplice escaped in the process.

According to him, the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Adeaanya granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until Jan. 24 for mention.
