Police arraign man for alleged theft, threat to life

One accused person, Sunday Adewuyi, 65, Wednesday, appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrate Court on account t of alleged theft and threatening of another person’s life.
The Police Prosecutor, Sgt Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on February 14, 2014, on Fakunle Plaza Mokuro Road, Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said that the accused stole Toyota Camry and Volvo 940 cars with registration number AH 728 FFE valued N2.1 million, property of Joy Fakunle.
He added that Adewuyi threatened to kill Fakunle by sending short message service (SMS) to his mobile phone.
According to him, the offence was punishable under Sections 86, 390 (9) and 422 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol 11 Laws of Osun State, 2002.
He, however, pleaded not guilty of the three-count charge of conspiracy, theft and threat to life.
The defence counsel, Mr. Martins Babatunde, pleaded that Adewuyi be granted on a liberal term, and promised that his client would not jump bail, but would produce reliable sureties.
Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode consented in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety in like sum.
He added that the surety should swear to an affidavit of means, should be resident within the court’s jurisdiction, with a verified address, as well as provide two recent passport photographs.
He adjourned the case till April 13, 2016.
