Plateau: Police will deploy 5 – 10 police officers to polling units – DIG

Kingsley Chukwuka, Jos
The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Taiwo Lakanu has said between five to 10 police officers will be deployed to man a polling unit during the supplementary elections in Plateau state.
Lakanu said given the fact that election will not hold in the entire state, there will be more policemen on ground to provide security. He stated this on Friday in Jos, while on an election assessment tour to states under his command.
He said that “when you have more policemen on ground, people will come out and vote because they will feel save. The increase in personnel is not aimed at intimidating voters, but to make them have confidence about their safety.”
While assuring the electorate of peace and security during the polls, the DIG said no form of electoral misconduct or thuggery would be tolerated and charged the officers to be deployed for the re-run elections to be professional in their conduct, encouraging them to consolidate on their previous efforts during the supplementary polls.
“The general elections so far has been applauded by Nigerians and I urge you to double your efforts tomorrow so as to prevent those who will want to snatch ballot boxes, card readers and other sensitive materials,” Lakanu added.
However, the state police command has declared the total restriction of movement in the entire state from 6am to 6pm today as a result of the supplementary elections.
